Sexual Risk Avoidance

The youth of today are in desperate need of abstinence education.  Every year, one million teens become pregnant, and 1 in 4 sexually-active graduating seniors have had or will have a sexually transmitted disease.  Herpes has skyrocketed 500% among white teenagers in the last 20 years, and AIDS is the leading killer in Americans between the ages of 25 and 44.  Teens make up 10% of the population, but they contract up to 25% of all sexually transmitted diseases.  Statistics show that 72% of high school seniors have had sex and 40% of all 9th graders are sexually active.  These statistics are staggering.

In a culture driven by sex, our teens need abstinence education.  WCMC has stood firm in their teaching of sexual integrity and abstinence until marriage.  Teaching abstinence education is a proactive, preventative method that WCMC uses to help reduce unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in Baldwin County.  Our partnership with the Baldwin County School Board allows us to send a team of trained volunteers into every 7th and 8th grade classroom in our county, and many high schools as well.

Our character-based abstinence education program is designed to:

  • Inform teenagers on the physical and emotional consequences of sex outside of marriage.
  • Equip teenagers with practical ways to say no that will protect themselves from diseases and heartache.
  • Teach our young people that they are of infinite worth and value.
  • Educate teens on how to make positive choices for their life.

Services

We have also adapted our abstinence program for church youth groups, allowing us to teach God’s plan on marriage and sex.  WCMC provides this service to our county free of charge.  If you would like to schedule an event, please contact us info@womenscaremedicalcenter.org.
